WATER POLLUTION

                 WATER POLLUTION

Water pollution is a rising global crises.

  • The world's freshwater sources receive contaminants from a wide range of sectors, threatening human and wildlife health.
  • From big pieces of garbage to invisible chemicals, a wide range of pollutants ends up in our planet's lakes, rivers, streams, groundwater, and eventually the oceans. Water pollution—along with drought, inefficiency, and an exploding population—has contributed to a freshwater crises, threatening the sources we rely on for drinking water and other critical needs.
  • Safeguarding water supplies is important because even though nearly 70 percent of the world is covered by water, only 2.5 percent of it is fresh. And just one percent of freshwater is easily accessible, with much of it trapped in remote glaciers and snowfields.

Water pollution causes

  • Water pollution can come from a variety of sources. Pollution can enter water directly, through both legal and illegal discharges from factories .or imperfect water treatment plants. Spills and leaks from oil pipelines or hydraulic fracturing (fracking) operations can degrade water supplies. Wind, storms, and littering—especially of plastic waste—can also send debris into waterways.

Effects of water pollution on Marine life

  • Aquatic life forms mainly suffer because of water pollution because of loss of enough amount of fresh dissolved oxygen in water bodies due to raised volume of toxicity in water. Toxicity which is a result of water pollution leads to death of aquatic life forms.

Plastic straw removed from sea turtle's nostril.

  • While on a research project in Costa Rica, Nathan J. Robinson removed a 10cm (4 in) plastic straw that was entirely embedded into nostril of a sea turtle. Lamenrably, this is a consequence of the world of single -use ,non biodegradable plastic we currently live in.

 Ways to Prevent Water Pollution

  • If you can, pick up litter and garbage by hand, and take it to your personal garbage can before it travels into local waterways.
  • Never put chemicals down the drain. Place them into your outside garbage can or take them to the local authorized center.
  • Wash your car where the water and soap can go to a dirt or grass area instead of a street and drain to the river or creek.
  • According to researchers , Oysters play a large role in keeping the sea clean and full of life. Just one oyster can filter up to 50 gallons (227 liters) of water a day, removing pollutants and chemicals.

  • Around the world oyster farming is also carried out .

Why Oyster Farming  is done?

  • Relatively rapid growth and good meat yield. Facilities three-dimensional utilization of the culture area. The biological functions of the oyster such as filtration feeding etc.
  • Oyster farming actually has a positive impact on the environment – unique practically among any kind of food. Essentially they are little environmental scrubbers. Each one can filter up to 50 gallons of water a day, removing nitrogen and phosphorous.

Time lapse video of oyster filtration.

  • In this video it can be clearly noted that water with oysters seems to be more cleaner than water without oyster.
  • At last we all should remember that

IF YOU SAVE

WATER

WATER WILL

SAVE YOU
